Innovation - Individual Characteristics

Last week I wrote about what it means to be innovating and what is needed. Today I will look at the individual characteristics of what you need to be innovating.

To be an effective innovator you need:

1.  To know what you want to achieve, don't worry just yet about how to achieve them it will come.

2.  To define clearly the aims and benefits of the project.

3.  To argue the case for the project persuasively.

4.  To get support not only from your boss/investors but also from your staff and colleagues. 

5.  Courage to take calculated risks and not give in when the inevitable setbacks occur.

6.  To be great at getting people into action

7.  Be able to get things done.

8.  The ability to handle opposition or interference on the project.

9.  Be able to maintain momentum and not loose enthusiasm in more tedious work.

All of these aspects are important and if you recognize that you are unable to do some of these things, don't worry you can always hire someone that can cover the ones you can't, if that is not in play learn how to deligate to the correct people.

Innovation

Innovation is the life-blood of an organization. There is nothing so stultifying to a company - or the people in it - as a belief that the old ways must be the best ways. An Organization which tries to stand still will not surive. And this I see everyday in business around me. They work hard to get to a certain point and then theys it back and relax, unfortunetly it does not work that way. 

Innovation requires a blend of creativity, clear thinking and the ability to get things done. It requires thinkers and doers to work closely together. Management or Owners must create a climate in which staff have the scope to develop new ideas and the resources to implement them.

The success of innovative projects, therfore, can be seen to depend on two things:

1. The Characteristics of the individual manager and

2. The Climate of the Business.

Why Things Go Wrong

The main reasons for things going wrong are:

1. Inability to learn from mistakes

2. Sheer incompetence through over promotion

3. Poor selction, inadequate training

4. Over-confidence

5. Under-confidence

6. Laziness

7. Lack of foresight

What can you do about it?

1. Mistakes will happen. The unforgivalbe thins is to make the same mistake twice. Learn from your mistakes by analysing what went wrong.

2&3 This is something you should minimize in your subordinates by a constant drive to improve selction and performance standards and by training and coaching aimed at correcting specified weaknesses.

4. This is the most difficult problem to eradicate. Mistakes occur because you are so certain that you know all the answers that no attempt is made to foresee or take care of the unexpected. Over-confident people tend to have tunnel vision not taking notice of what is happening on either side or beyond.

5. This can be overcome as long as the individual is fundamentally competent. Mentorship works well here.

6. No one would ever admit to being lazy. But they do exist, either because they are naturally indolent or they have not been given sufficient leadership and a well-defined roll in the business. If you have such a staff member give them the boot, it cannot be tolerated. 

7. This is a common reason for mistakes. You must try to anticipate all the eventualities and make contingency plans accordingly. You may not get it right every time, but you will at least be better prepared if thought has been given to some of the eventualities.

AA & CC - Addiction Awareness Compulsion Conscience

All those four states (Addiction Awareness Compulsion Conscience) are a part of everyones life and therefore, being fully aware to ones current state and situation is key in creating pleasantness in everyones life. 

It is about YOU taking another second to evaluate “what’s going on” before YOU take the decision TO DO or AVOID DOING it. 

It is about YOU being fully aware of the immediate, mid term and long term consequences of the decesion and the action that YOU are about to take NOW...

There is a victory to be gained when YOU manage to move from Addiction to Awareness and from Compulsion Conscience. Those pleasant feeling of personal victory can be the alternative satisfaction that can replace the short term satisfactions that addictive and compulsive actions can offer...

Here is the loop: THE MORE that you are AWARE about what you do THE BETTER your decisions are, THE BETTER the outcome is,THE MORE proud you are about your achievements, THE MORE pleasant you feel, the EVEN MORE AWARE you become, the EVEN BETTER your decisions are ...etc!

SKYDIVINE yourself and the SKY IS YOUR LIMIT

It was my first YOGA DAY and it just felt great!!!

I am sorry that I didn't start this experience years ago. 

Stretching ones body and especially breathing the right way has a fantastic influence on ones physical and mental performance.   

The improved mental performance will lead to better decisions that will enhance success. 

No illusions- the mind is a physical organ that must be well treated in order to function at its best, and, YOGA is one of the most proven effective methods to do the JOB. 

Yet, even that the advantages of YOGA are so familiar and well known, so little is actually done  in order to materialize and enjoy the endless benefits that YOGA offers. 

Doing YOGA is far more than just stretching ones muscles and breathing in some fresh air...it is purely a self discipline exercise!!! It is you deciding to do something useful and healthy instead of doing something unhealthy and senseless (like drinking, smoking or just being lazy).   

Doing YOGA is a conscience investment that you do in your own body, the same body (and mind) that you expect to carry you around and support you while handling the challenges of life... 

Doing YOGA has endless hidden meanings that will directly reflect and influence your financial success by being fully aware and seeing life from a new perspective...

 Brian Tracy said (in his Audio Book Time Management Made Simple ) that Woody Allen said it...that 80% of success happens just by showing up!

Dr.Baumann Turkey - 10 Social Purposes

Continuing the last POST about PURPOSE, here are the 10 social purposes that the DR BAUMANN TURKEY TEAM came up with. 

The team made of: accountants, IT and internet designer, branding manager, skincare education manager, sales representatives and the owners took a couple of meetings to shape and refine the final 10 social purposes that DR BAUMANN TURKEY stands for and promises to maintain. 

Designing the SOCIAL PURPOSE is the: WHAT WE WANT TO DO. 

Next step is to details under each of the 10 purposes is the strategy, meaning: HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO IT. 

Eventually, this will create a TO DO LIST that will be prioritized, planned and budgeted and finally turned into a ACTION PLAN that will be followed and reviewed each week in the coming year (and the other years to come) during the weekly team meetings. 

I am sure that many wonderful achievements will be made as a result and which I will love to share with you. 

Here are the 10 social purposes (not prioritiesed yet), think about it and see if you wish to adopt those or a part of them as your own business social purposes.

10. To earn money and improve the life quality as well as income level of the business members / staff and guarantee a fair return on investment for the investors

April Fools' Day - Or real LIVING.

I am back to writing and I am not fooling you :-)

Since my surgery took place, I took some time to re-think about basically everything (or at least a great part of it). 

Things get definitely clearer and sharper when you look at things from another perspective. 

For me it was the issue of PURPOSE that hit me the most. 

The clear conclusion is that every business must take the time and redefine it's fine and exact PURPOSE. Otherwise, running around with no purpose isn#t only inefficient and ineffective but is totally useless when it comes to ones social contribution. 

With no real social contribution = real purpose, the existence of any business is totally temporary. 

Gather yourself, your team, family, staff, suppliers, colleges, friends and everyone that can help and ask them to contribute to writing down the purpose of your business (the way they see it). Having the final accurate  and most important:a clear understanding about this issue of PURPOSE, will allow you to focus on the most essential activities that are connected to fulfill your PURPOSE. What will be left is, setting the milestones and writing down all the relevant activities , prioritize them and start the journey of your life on the way to FULLY FULFILL YOUR REAL PURPOSE. 

That's what I call LIVING.

Earth Aware Week

The Earth Is Alive

When man travelled into space and saw the earth as a whole and from a different perspective, some of us realised that maybe the earth is also a living being. Imagine if we were flea's or ticks on a animal, let's say a dog. We charted the ground, measured the temprature and explored every peak. And one day we took a giant leap and saw that our entire planet was actually a living creature and it's alive. This is the truly awesome realization brought on through the visit to the moon.

If the idea of the Earth as a living being is initially difficult to accept, it may be due partly to our assumptions about what sort of things can and cannot be organisms. We accept a vast range of systems as living organisms, from bacteria to blue whales, but when it comes to the whole planet we might find this concept a bit difficult to grasp. Yet until the development of the microscope less than four hundred years ago, few people realized that there are living organisms within us and around us, so small that they cannot be seen with the naked eye. Today we are viewing life from the other direction, through the "macroscope" of the Earth view, and we are beginning to surmise that something as vast as our planet could also be a living organism.

Earth is not an organism we can observe ordinarily outside ourselves; it is an organism of which we are an intimate part. Only when we step into space can we begin to see it as a separate being. Stuck like fleas on an elephant, we have not, until recently, had the chance to see the planet as a whole. Would a cell in our own bodies, seeing only its neighboring cells for a short period, ever guess that the whole body is a living being in its own right?

To better understand the planet as a living system, we need to go beyond the time scales of human life to the planet's own time scale, vastly greater than our own. Looked at in this way, the rhythm of day and night might be the pulse of the planet, one full cycle of every hundred thousand human heartbeats. Speeding up time appropriately, we would see the atmosphere and ocean currents swirling round the planet, circulating nutrients and carrying away waste products, much as the blood circulates nutrients and carries away waste in our own bodies.

We are incredibly similar to earth when it comes to our functions. So why are we poluting and destroying it, would we do it to our own bodies. I think not...

Its the Month of Love

This time of year always brings out the romance in people, it doesn't matter what age you are. Businesses around the world are making an obsene amount of money on roses and chocolate as well as valentines cards, so why are you not taking part in this action. This is the type of month where you as a salon or spa owner can run all your couples treatments that usually don't get any attention. People are looking for that weekend of romance and relaxation and just to be completely be spoiled. You can run Double Pedicures, doulbe massages and wraps as well as double facials for a low price or you can combine some of these things to make a really nice package. 

Also don't just focus on the couples but also the individuals, women want to look beautiful for the men and the waxing, nails, facials and pedicures can make you a lot of money if also put on special. Then there is your man that is not really the salon or spa type but just want to book their lady in for the day, so remember to put something together for them as well, and not just focus on the couples theme. And don't forget about your products, give something for free for those day packages. If you follow the Dr Baumann specials then you know that this is a perfect opportunity when a client buys something you are able to give them a gift and it won't cost you a sent.

Do someting extra for your clients for the week of love, put strawberries and shampaine out instead of juice or water. Make your own valentines cards with a special message for all your loyal customers and something smaller for your new clients. Give out small chocolates or even a rose for the people that come through your salon on that day. This is the one month where your creativity will have no bounds.
